The Harsh Cry of the Heron is the penultimate book written by Lian Hearn of the Tales of Otori books. I must say that out of all the books i have read this is quite enjoyable but its really hard keeping up with all the characters and some minor characters which are easily forgotten are from the previous books and are not mentioned in the characters section so you may get confused at times. *Story* *may contain spoilers* After Takeo has finally destroyed his betraying foe Arai and is now settling in with Kaede, his daughter Shigeko and his twins Miki and Maya. Harsh Cry Of The Heron is the fourth and penultimate installment of Lian Hearn's bestselling Otori trilogy- a series which somehow has now (in true Douglas Adams style) somehow mutated into a trilogy in five parts. To be perfectly frank and judging from this novel alone, it would probably have been better to end it at three books as the preceeding installment left the story pretty much complete. To many then, this novel will seem like an unnessecary indulgence on the part of the author.
