 ... enjoyed. Conlon-McKenna started out as a children's writer, which I'm afraid to say seems to have had some influence on the tone of this book. Although the characters are almost all adults, it reads like a light children's book. The best-written character is a little boy who wants to have a hat made for his grandma. "The Hat Shop on the Corner" is about Ellie Matthews, who inherits her mother's hat shop and doesn't have the heart to close it down. She ends up making hats for people all over the town, including a mother-of-the-bride, and the mayor. She also finds time for romance. It's a heartwarming story, but not one I particularly enjoyed.
