Premium Review The Horse and his Boy - C. S. Lewis: The Horse And His Boy - What A Ride! (943 words)
by - written on 13/10/07 (Very useful, 91 readings)
Rating:

The Horse And His Boy is, chronologically, the third book in C.S. Lewis' "The Chronicles Of Narnia". The chronicles as a whole are something that i'm growing to love. During my childhood, i watched the BBC dramatisations of "The Lion, The Witch & The Wardrobe", "Prince Caspian And The Voyage Of The Dawn Treader" and "The Silver Chair". To this day they still bring back strong feelings of nostalgia (and i've recently bought them on DVD, can't wait to watch them). I also had the full set of books as a child (they were originally my mothers) but i never read them. I wasn't the reading type back then (how that's changed!) Then, in ...  Read the complete review

Rating:

One of the more overlooked titles in C. S. Lewis’ Chronicles of Narnia series, ‘The Horse and His Boy’ is a somewhat superfluous addition to the popular children’s series. The only book to focus on children native to Narnia rather than our own world, its minimal events and simplistic moral plot seem overly stretched out, in contrast to the more eventful books that precede it. Ostensibly a popular Narnian folk story, the tale of ‘the horse and his boy’ is mentioned by name twice in Lewis’ previous book ‘The Silver Chair.’ Rather than provide an intriguing platform from which ‘The Horse and His Boy’ could be launched, this name-dropping only jeopardises the ...  Read the complete review

Crowned Review The Horse and his Boy - C. S. Lewis: "I suppose you refuse to eat grass?" (1065 words)
by - written on 03/07/05 (Very useful, 412 readings)
Rating:

The Horse and His Boy is the third Narnia novel I've read (there are seven Chronicles of Narnia in total) - having first read The Magician's Nephew and then The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe. Some people feel that this is the wrong reading order. However, it is the correct order in terms of Narnia chronology (though Magician's Nephew was written later), and indeed this is the reading order that CS Lewis himself recommends. The Horse and His Boy -------------------------- This book overlaps slightly on some of the events briefly mentioned in The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe, but is a departure from those books in that the whole story ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review The Horse and His Boy - A wonderful adventure! (254 words)

Rating:

The Horse and his Boy is another exceptional fantasy novel that is written by C.S Lewis as part of the Chronicles of Narnia. It was originally piublished in 1954 and is the fifth book to be published in the Chronicles of Narnia. The novel contains 199 pages and is beautifully written throughout and it really will keep you entertained throughout. It is a childrens book and I would really recommend it because the story is fantatsic and the quality of the book in general is exceptional! The story is about a young boy who is called Shasta who is raised by a fisherman called Arsheesh having been found at birth. Premium Review The Horse and his Boy - C. S. Lewis: The third Narnia book almost seems out of place! (453 words)
by - written on 28/10/08 (Very useful, 26 readings)
Rating:

The Horse and his Boy is the third book in the series of Narnia written by C.S.Lewis in the middle of the 20th Century. While the reading order places it at number 3, it was actually written and published after The Silver Chair, which mentions the characters in The Horse and his Boy. Of all 7 of the books, this is my least favourite, as I found the story to be bereft of deepened explanation which is present in the other books. This book is the only one of the 7 to tell a story of Narnian natives as opposed to the saga of people from our world crossing over. Narnia is a magical land, another world, that the other books in the series see the characters accessing ...  Read the complete review
