Advantages: the ending is what we thought was impossible
Disadvantages: violent in places
I have just finished this book, and I was a little sceptical about reading it as I am a huge fan of the twilight series.
The book is again super natural alike the twilight books, which is a good theme for Stephanie Meyer as she is great at supernatural fiction.
The book is set in America, the planet has been taken o0ver by a breed of aliens that we know as "souls". The "souls" live inside humans, using their bodies as hosts where the souls control the body in actions and thought. One particular soul named by other souls as Wanderer is captured from hibernation and placed inside a newly captured human sould of a female named Melanie. However this doesnt run smoothly, as Wanderer can communicate with Melanie inside their head, and Wanderer finds herself falling in love with Mel's lover Jared.
The tale is backward-romantic, a slightly twisted love story built on the supernatural. Its a really good read, something completely different from Meyer, and I oddly found it just as good as Twilight.
However I found one fault with the book, when an action or more intense sequence of events was about to occur, its seemed to happen too quickly, not as exciting and the climax sort of went un-noticed. I found this different from other Meyer books such as Eclipse, as we anticipated the climax the whole way through in that, so its differemt for Meyer to postpone the excitement. However with the host i found it more of a love story, I dont think any male would enjoy teh book, as it focused alot upon womens feelings and importance of motherhood.
I dont think the host will create as much of a hype as the twilight books did, the male lead Jared is aggresive and its hard to love him also like you would with Edward Cullen. However say all that The host has its own good qualities, its different, Wanderer is a great hero, and you tend to liek Mel too, which amkes you appreciate Wanderer more. Its funny in places, but there is a lot of violence, but you can sort-of relate to it, as imagine if you were the last humans on Earth. I say read it give it a go and let us know how you feel. I liked it, id read it again.
Summary: a really good read, but it wont craete the hype that twilight created.
