I am a regular visitor to my town's many charity shops in search of some additional books for my classroom. With being continually handled by the children and taken in and out of the book shelf, I am more than keen to not have to pay the full price for such books, which is why I frequent the charity shop. A few months ago, I felt I was extremely lucky to pick up this children's book, 'The Jolly Christmas Postman' by Allan and Janet Ahlberg for only a £1 in excellent condition. Even better value when I realised that Amazon were selling the book for £9.99. Before purchasing, I was already familiar with some of the children's books writen by Alhberg, and had ... This is one of the very best Christmas books for children that I've ever seen & was such a favourite with my daughters when they were young that I bought 3 copies due to 'wear & tear'! The 'Jolly Christmas Postman' was published in 1991 probably because 'The Jolly Postman' was such a success - it costs around £13 in major bookstores but Amazon are advertising it for £8.44 - a great investment! Janet & Allan Ahlberg have written loads of children's stories which are still very popular - I think some of them are on the National Curriculum in primary schools. Allan still writes ( I think Janet sadly died a few years ago) but the ... Read the complete review

Myself and my son love this book, we brought it last xmas and it was definatly great fun. I was looking last year for a good xmas eve book as i always make my children a " night before xmas hamper" (its basically a box with new pj's, a santa letter, reindeer food, some cookies for santa etc etc) so i went to my local bookstore and asked for them to reccomend a good xmas eve book for a five year old boy and they reccommended Janet and Allan Ahlberg's " The Jolly Christmas Postman" i think it cost me 10.99, but you can buy it from amazon for 8.44 at the moment..... and i know that is slighly pricey but i promise you, you will get as much ... The Jolly Postman was a book written by janet and Allan Ahlberg. Following its success, they wrote a follow-up with Christmas in mind, entitled The Jolly Christmas Postman, which features the Jolly Postman doing his rounds at Xmas time and a selectin of the notes and letters he delivers. There are around 50 pages in this book, and each time the Postman delivers a letter, we are told who he's delivering it to, and on the opposing page is a pouch like the inside of an envelope, and a letter inside, written by the sender. The Ahlberg's tend to use fairy tales and nursery rhymes for their characters, and as such there is, for example, a letter from Jack, thanking ... Read the complete review

Janet and Allan Ahlberg wrote 'The Jolly Postman' and it proved to be so popular they wrote this Christmas themed sequel in it's wake. This was bought as a Christmas present a few years ago for my two young sons and it became a firm favourite, especially at night time. It's based on the same story as the original book, but it's set on Christmas Eve and we follow the Postman as he sets off to deliver all the Christmas post. There is again the interactive element which allows the child to really get involved in the book by opening the 'envelopes' positioned every couple of pages, and containing 'real' letters addressed to the nursery rhyme characters;a concept which proved ...
