... I was looking forward to a story of a very different kind. The story is told in third person from three points of view and the descriptions of the Irish village of Lissamore, where the story is set, are spot-on, although I didn't find the scenes set in Thailand were so well-written. The two sisters, Rio and Dervla, are likeable enough characters, albeit very stereo-typed. Rio is the earth-mother, hippy type whereas Dervla is career-driven and unsentimental. They fell out many years ago but after their fathers death th...more

Premium Review The Kinsella Sisters - Kate Thompson: Doesn't do what it says on the tin! (739 words)

I cam across this book in a charity shop and although I had never heard of the book or the author, the blurb on the back sounded interesting. Two feuding sisters are reunited after their father's death, and they discover a family secret which may change their lives forever. I adore stories that focus on family dynamics and even moreso those which have a family secret so I eagerly snapped this one up. The story starts well...very well. First of all there is a prologue that sets the scene for the rest of the story. And the first couple of chapters had me hooked, particularly the discovery of two kimonos which has a somewhat sinister undertone. I was hoping for ...  Read the complete review

Family lives, love lives and the confusion that occurs when the two meet... Rio and Dervla, sisters who have not spoken in two decades, are thrown back together by a tragedy in the family. As they begin to rebuild their relationship, things are complicated by the arrival of various men in the seaside village they once called home. There's a baby daddy, a millionaire and, oh, actually, another millionaire too. Set against the backdrop of a charming Irish village, the book provides a scrumptious look at family lives and love lives and the confusion that occurs when the two meet. It makes village life appealing and Ireland appear amazing. Even the world of ...  Read the complete review

Finding myself at work again at the library last week once again ended with me bringing home yet another huge pile of books... I seriously think I should cut my card up or something for a while! Anyway, I decided to put them in some sort of order of readability and The Kinsella Sisters went straight to the top. It's published by Avon who publish a lot of books I have loved, and the plot really appealed to me as well. The pretty summery looking cover also helped, so I set to reading it straight away, and luckily I was hooked! Irish sisters Rio and Dervla haven't spoken for many years, and neither is particularly bothered by this as they live very separate and ...  Read the complete review
