Set in 18th century Venice, The Kiss of Death is a tie in to Markus Sedgwick's excellent 2006 novel 'My Swordhand is Singing'. Don't worry if you haven't read the original book as I think this story works fine as a stand-alone novel. The story starts with the family of a country doctor, who are shocked to receive an envelope containing part of a strange, venomous letter written in the absent doctor's handwriting, and an unsigned note asking to meet at a pub called the White Lion.
