In my review of Darren Shan and the Lake of Souls I will not contain any spoilers of the book but I may write a few hints in and I will write about the first book in the series as it is necessary for you to understand as to what is happening. For this reason I would suggest you not reading this review if you are going to read the first book and want everything which happens in Darren Shan: Cirque Du Freak to be a surprise I would recommend you not to read the rest of the review.

In the first book Darren Shan and his best friend Steve go to circus and Darren is amazed about a spider which does tricks. So later on that night he steals the spider. When showing the spider to Steve though this poisonous spider bites Steve. Steve is then taken to hospital and looks as if he is dying. Darren then makes a deal with the spider owner. Steve will get cured...if Darren becomes a vampire! Darren goes ahead with the deal and then has to fake his death as he can't continue living normal life as he has so much more strength he could kill his mother while hugging her.

I this, the tenth book of the series Darren Shan is depressed as Mr. Crepsley has died while he thought he had killed the Vampaneze Lord. Unfortunately this was not the case and worse still is the truth. Darren Shan's ex best friend Steve is the Vampaneze Lord destined to kill Darren or be killed by Darren. Mr Tiny however comes with a proposition for Harkat Mulds for him to find out who he was. Darren accompanies him to a wicked land with dragons, barely any people and no vegetation. Will they survive the perilous journey and if they do will the truth be what they hope for? In my opinion this exciting book is a must read. While not as pivitol to the series as the last two this book is still very important in linking information and a very good storyline filled with twists and turns together. Unfortunately this is one of those series where you have to read the books in order.
