Advantages: the graphics, humour and sense of fun inbued in each frame

Disadvantages: can be quite graphic!

I bought this book when I heard that a film of it was being made and wanted to read it first. And I am glad that i did - the book is much, much better!

what did i like about this comic - lots! it's set in a fantasy stylised "historic" period - sort of early 1900s but with technological advances beyond even our ken now. The characters are introduced in a series of short flashbacks with a little backstory although more is revealed throughout the story. The graphics are very good, with different styles being employed throughout the book. i like the use of colour and framing and often the lack of text allows the graphics to speak for themselves.

i loved the sections with Nemo in them, particularly the detail used for his ship, and also the humour used for the invisible man parts too. but be warned - this can be quite a graphic graphic novel. i'm no prude, but it may be best not to introduce this to an impressionable pre-teen.

I'd never read or seen the rest of Alan Moore's comics before but after reading this, i bought the second in the series and am on the lookout for his other books now. i never thought i'd be a convert to the graphic novel genre, but stranger things happen every day!

in short - it's good, humorous and with intricate and awe-some (in the old sense of the word) detail in the graphics.

Summary: it's good, humorous and with intricate and awe-some detail in the gra
