The Lincoln Lawyer - Michael Connelly ... chain, the criminal defence attorneys who operate out of the back of a Lincoln Town Car, taking whatever cases the system throws in their path. Mickey Haller has been in the business a long time, and he knows just how to work it. When a Beverly Hills rich boy is arrested for brutally beating a woman, Haller has his first high-paying client in years. The evidence mounts on the defence's side, and Haller might even be in the rare position of defending a client who is actually innocent. But when his case starts to fall apart and neither the suspect nor the victim are quite who they seem, Haller quickly discovers that when you swim with the sharks, it's easy to wind up as prey.

... Mickey is of the opinion that guilt and innocence play only a small part in law, and it's more about taking a prosecutors case and crushing it. After the book has introduced Haller and his ex wife Maggie McFierce (his nickname for her), a prosecutor in the same La Courts he works, it then goes on to introduce a wealthy new client who has been arrested for a brutal attack on a prostitute in LA, who also swears blind he is innocent. With all the evidence pointing to the guilt of the man, Haller is convinced that this is ...more

Crowned Review The Lincoln Lawyer - Michael Connelly: He Fought the Law (830 words)
by - written on 03/09/09 (Very useful, 55 readings)
Rating:

There is one name that is above all when it comes to the modern courtroom thriller. The likes of Steve Martini whisper the name in quiet corners as they poke voodoo dolls stamped with his visage. This is a man who has produced what is essentially the same book once a year for 20 years and sells them by the millions. To make other authors even more jealous many of his novels have been adapted into insufferable films that make even crown green bowling seems exciting. This man is called John Grisham. If all his books that are currently residing in charity shops were stacked on end we could forgo a new space shuttle and instead traverse this tower to the moon. No one ...  Read the complete review

After finishing this fantastic book while away on my recent holiday, and reading it in 2 days flat, I thought I'd let you all know about it, so you can all rush out and buy it as soon as the shops open in the morning! Ok, maybe not, but it is very good!! The book opens with Mickey Haller, a criminal defense attorney in Los Angeles who defends anyone who can afford his fee's. With a million dollar view from his town house in the Hollywood hills, he has to keep his head above water, and unfortunately for him, this means defending scum bags who need to get out of jail. Haller constantly refers to his fears of forgetting what innocence looks like and missing the ...  Read the complete review

"Michael Connelly's The Lincoln Lawyer" "There is no client as scary, as an innocent Man" - J. Michael Haller, Criminal Defense Attorney, L.A.1962 The best reason why I enjoyed reading Michael Connelly's The Lincoln Lawyer, is the fact that I was able to get an inside look into the "Lawyer Morality". It is no surprise that to be an attorney, is the ability to be able to produce major amount of dollars. Yet, its not as simple as saying receive a case, win it, and go home with a pocket full of dollars. For example, what toll is taken, when you lose a case and must watch an innocent man be sent to prison? I ...  Read the complete review

Michael Connelly is a multi-award winning author, who is probably best known for his series of Harry Bosch books. He has written sixteen novels, all of which have been best sellers. "The Lincoln Lawyer" was short-listed for the Richard and Judy Book Club book of the year. It is Connelly's first legal thriller. Some die-hard Connelly fans may remember that in his second novel, "Black Ice", Harry Bosch discovers that his father was a famous criminal defence attorney called J.Michael Haller. The protagonist in this novel is Mickey Haller, Bosch's half brother. Like his father before him, Haller is a defence attorney. His ...  Read the complete review

Rating:

The Lincoln Lawyer is the 16th novel from the award winning crime author Michael Connelly. It features a new character in its lead role, that of Mickey Haller, who is the half brother of Connelly regular hero, Detective Harry Bosch. The Plot Mickey Haller is a Lincoln Lawyer, meaning that he works from the back of his car, a Lincoln, and takes cases as they come to him without going throuhg an office as such. The danger of this is that picking and choosing the cases is not so easy, as Haller finds out when he lands the defense of the son of a rich family, charged with beating a woman brutally. The money promises to be good, as the family has said, ...  Read the complete review

Impressive debut with some fantastic art. A bit of a copy-cat, falling for some of the Sandman's pitfalls.
