Crowned Review The Lion Who Wanted to Love - Giles Andrea: You've got to be strong to be different (927 words)

I bought this book for my son when he was 2 and he still reads it now (aged 5). The thing that attracted me to buy this book over others were the bright colours and illustrations I thought my son would love. I also bought his book with an accompanying story telling cassette. I find these story teller cassettes and cds so useful for when he is hacing trouble sleeping as I can just leave one on for him. ***** The author ***** Giles Andreae is an Oxford graduate and acclaimed poet. This book The Lion Who wanted to love, started off as a poem which, after being left to the side for a number of years he decided to turn into a story. ***** The ...  Read the complete review

What a great book for kids, and one that my son reads constantly, but was also used in his kindergarten as it has many different things to talk about on lots of different levels. The baby lion in the story grows up but doesn't want to eat other animals to survive, so is cast out from his family, and instead learns to survive by helping other animals who bring him food. One day he is trying to help a cub that has fallen in the river, and while saving him, he falls in. All the other animals come to his aid, as he has been such a good friend and helper to them, and he shows the other lions how they don't have to bad to others. Really super book, with the usual terrific ...  Read the complete review

Rating:

I think children’s books are particularly hard to write about as you end up with either a very short review or a very long review and it is hard to get the balance right, and this is why I usually refrain from attempting them. However before the half term started my son (aged nearly six) brought home this book from school to read over the holidays and I have enjoyed it so much I thought I would attempt the unthinkable! --The Story-- The basis of the story is a young lion cub called Leo (original!!) who wasn’t really interested in the normal things that lions do, like fighting, hunting and being strong and fierce. All he wants to do is love everybody ...  Read the complete review
