This isn't a book, it's a plank. Rock legend and chemical processing plant Julian Cope's weighty tome is a must for anyone who has ever been walking in the countryside and wondered why it was quite so lumpy. His research is impecable, his poems, however are not. Still, how many archaeology or history books have poems? The first few chapters are extensive writings on Cope's theories of primitive man, their rituals and their place in the grand scheme of European evolution. The gazeteer, which comprises that largest part of the book, is a comprehensive guide to practically every neolithic site in the UK. When we hear of an actor releasing a single, or a singer pursuing a serious acting path, or even a Pop Idol finalist thinking that they are actually going to have a successful career, the world raises its collective eyebrows, makes a sound of disapproval and waits for it to all fall flat.
