Have you every wondered how a leopard got his spots or a zebra got it's stripes? Why, from a little mischievous monkey of course! Right back at the beginning of the world, A little monkey wondered why the birds where so pretty and colourful while the rest of the animals where as dull as, in his own words, Elephant poo! Wandering along a stream, he happens across a box of bright paints and a couple of paintbrushes. Testing out his newly found artistry on flowers to begin, he waits until he is sure the other animals are fast asleep and gives them all a make over. But getting overly ambitious, he wakes a bear after painting white ... Read the complete review

I bought this book for my son who is 5. He loves trips to the bookshop and library and this book was on a buy one get one free deal at Waterstones. The RRP is £5.99. However it is retailing on Amazon for £4.49 with used copies selling at £1.87.It is published by the 'Little Tiger Press' and written by Steve Smallman with illustrations by Nick Schon. It was the colourful attractive cover that attracted my son's attention on this book and the humorous illustrations. My son is at the stage where he wants to read for himself but still finds it tricky so loves bright pictures to guide him. **** The Story ***** The story is about a long time ... The story starts with a small monkey sitting at the top of a tree, the monkey is watching the beautiful parrots flying by. He is admiring there colourful plumes and wishing that he was just as pretty. The next paragraph sums up the little monkeys feelings, about himself and towards his fellow animals - "All around him ... Read the complete review

We recently recieved a copy of 'The Monkey with a Bright Blue Bottom' as a gift. It is a delightful story written by Steve Smallman, with illustrations by Nick Schon. The book tells the story of a cheeky monkey who, as we join him, is sitting watching the colourful birds flying above him, jealous of their bright colours. We find that the story is set back when the world is quite new, and all of the animals are a plain dull grey colour. As he goes about his business, the monkey stumbles upon a paintbox and brushes, and an idea strikes him- in the monkeys own words, 'somebody pained the kingfisher blue, I'm going to pain all the animals too!'. The monkey ... Read the complete review
