Faraway Tree - Enid Blyton

Premium Review Faraway in a land fo enchantment (527 words)
by thehonesttruth - written on 02/10/07 (Very useful, 107 readings)
Rating:

Imagine living on the outskirts of a forest and knowing it was enchanted. What child could resist the temptation to enter within and see what kind of mysterious and magical things you might encounter in its depths. Not Jo, Bessie and Fanny (no sniggering boys!) that’s for sure. Tempted by the trees sighing' wisha, wisha' over the breeze, they travelled inside and found... ...The faraway tree! A tree covered in magical fruits with a new magical creature living on each branch. Creatures like the Angry Pixie, who lives up to his name. But don't stare into his window, or he'll throw water at you. Venture to the next branch of the tree and find an altogether more appealing ...

Famous Five Slipcase 1-7 - Enid Blyton

Premium Review The Famous five - Just a kids book? (307 words)
by angietash - written on 17/03/02 (Somewhat useful, 1126 readings)
Rating:

Julian, Dick, George, Anne and the loveable Timmy the dog in different settings, the characters are realistic and never fail to capture any childs' imagination. Enid Blyton was a schoolteacher while she wrote some of these books, and while reading them it shows, she really has got an amazing insight into the minds of young children. Credit has to be given to her for writing a series of adventure without any murder, rape or violence. Something which cannot be said for many modern children's' writers. The only thing controversial in her book, more recently now than when they were originally written is that the books do contain occasional sexist and ...

Rating:

the Harry Potter books, and every vicar, however 'Christian cool' and alien they be, has read the bible, so generations of children have got caught up in the adventures of Enid Blyton's Famous Five. No not a group of cheesy pop stars, but a gang of four fearless and thrill seeking kids, and their dog. They were the ultimate crime fighting outfit. Scotland Yard: 'We have a new case, send out the famous five' Julian: the eldest of the them all and, not surprisingly given the name, a bloke. He would always be the leader, the sensible one, probably the one who cooked the scrambled egg and wanted to be an astronaut when he grew up. If they had them ...
