The New Avengers Volume 3: Secrets and Lies - Brian Michael ...
by plipplop - written on 14/03/09 (Very useful, 99 readings)
Rating:
Avengers that could spell big trouble. But whatever happens, it soon becomes clear to Cap that somebody on the team is not quite what he/she purports to be.... For Brian Bendis s third instalment in the reinvented Avengers series, the writer shifts the action around the globe for three chapters, and tries to implement another new look and feel. Traditionally, tales that feature the Japanese underworld are more likely to feature some of the edgier, solo characters such as Elektra or Daredevil but in his continuing attempts to do something new Bendis clearly feels that it s an area that could benefit from some team action. It s an intriguing tale of double-crossing and ...

creative team behind the New Avengers decided that a second, partner series should evolve depicting a very different group of heroes. Recognising the opportunity to present two different teams, writer Brian Michael Bendis intended to run the two series in parallel, but when the artist Frank Cho fell behind, the two titles continuity slipped and they have since run as relatively separate entities. The Ultron Initiative (originally named just The Initiative to prevent spoiling the arrival of an old foe) was a six-part series intended to throw the new team of Mighty Avengers into a pitched battle against one of the team s greatest, most powerful foes. Showcasing the ...

out that the team would be up against a whole city of Venoms, this volume of the Mighty Avengers seemed almost too good to be true. The second compilation of Brian Michael Bendis s run on The Mighty Avengers, Venom Bomb actually faces an extremely difficult task. In the original comic book series, the story arc found itself wedged between two major crossover events, with the repercussions of Civil War now leading the Marvel Universe into the Secret Invasion and there was a risk that the five-part story would simply find itself treading water until the next big thing came along. In some ways, it does suffer a little from this, but is still a welcome return to form for the ...
