The Physics of Star Trek - Lawrence M. Krauss ... today's and tomorrow's physics. The author assess what is and what is not actually possible according to the laws of physics, among all the weird and wonderful things that Kirk, Spock and Scottie got up to in their parallel universe.

The foreword is written by none other than Professor Stephen Hawking, the only person (as far as I know) to have appeared on Star Trek as himself (playing cards with Data, Einstein and Newton: he claims to have won, too). My favourite section of the book is actually at the end. It describes the ten worst science 'bloopers' in the history of Star Trek. This is where the writers of the show transcend the realms of the theoretically plausible, into the completely i...more

Remember, the transporters were created, not as a prediction of the future, but rather to save money on special effects - it would have cost ...  Read the complete review
