Advantages: A great guide to a very good TV show. Full Colour throughout. Easy to understand.
Disadvantages: If you don't like The Prisoner, it will bore you to tears!
This is what every fan of the prisoner needs to have a good read through. The official companion guide the the classic TV series.
The book is 256 pages long in full colour throughout & is priced at £14.99 or less.
The book is laid out very well. It begins with an introduction. This contains sections about hirstorical context of the time, details on the main star Patrick McGoohan & information on programming of the time.
The book then proceeds with an episode guide. This is an in depth account of each episode. A minimum of 4 pages are devoted to each episode although some of the more important episodes like the original & final have more pages devoted to them.
Then there is a chapter about how The Prisoner grew it's profile & gathered it's cult status
After this there is a chapter devoted to the real life setting of the programme, Portmeirion. This is very interesting an almost like a small guide to the town, with a firm focus on The Prisoner.
close to the end the book contains a map of The Village, details of The Prisoner novels that have been published. There are details of a parody episode of The Prisoner featured on the 80's TV show The Tube.
The book ends with details of Graphic Novels that have been published, merchandise that has been released & The Prisoner's effects on popular culture.
I am a fan of The Prisoner TV show & own all the Episodes on DVD. This really was the perfect guide to the Show. I've learnt a lot more about the individual episodes & the TV show overall thanks to this book. If you are a fan of the programme or would like to know more about the programme I would recommend it.
Summary: A great read for fans & interesting for TV bofs.
