The Pub Landlord's Book of British Common Sense is an intriguing read that looks at a variety of issues through Al Murray's infamously tinted specs. I personally didn't know what to expect when i got the book, other than a good laugh. What i got however was not just a good laugh but an insight into how Murray thinks which i personally found intruiging. The book covers a wide variety of topics from Religion to being able to tell if your pub is infact a wine bar. As you would expect with Al Murray his view on all the topics, from the serious one's to the comical ones are tinted and not for everyone. He is perhaps one of Britain's favourite comedian's but for everyone that loves his stand up there is equally as many that can't stand him. I am of course talking about Al Murray, a man who perhaps is one of the best examples of a person who fits into the Marmite effect. I'm personally very much in the love him camp and that was perhaps the motivation behind me deciding to read his recent book, The Pub Landlord's Book of British Common Sense. When I first seen it on the shelves of my local book shop I wasn't really sure what to think but then curiosity got the better of me and I decided to give it a go.
