Hi my name is PJ and I am a massive fan of the punisher.

I own all of the MAX punisher series as I think Garth Ennis truly understands the character and sucks you into his world, but will you want to enter... read on...

The punisher is the alter ego of Vietnam veteran Frank Castle, a beast of a man with combat training whose family were shot dead by mafioso hitmen during a shootout in a park. From that moment on Frank Castle chose to be 'The Punisher' who punishes those who break the law, using his fists, his guns and every so often torture.

This story is (as the majority of the other MAX issues are) a standalone story following Frank's attack on a group of people who are trafficking young women in, not dissimilar to the Liam Neeson film Taken. Frank is caught up in trying to shut down the traffickers operation while at the same time being chased by the NYPD due to a stitch up which has been pulled by a corupt cop.

Frank does not pull and punches in his search for the truth and punishment, he is not one to talk through his problems and this issue in particular has some fairly graphic torture which wouldnt be out of place in one of the saw films. However the storyline is written in such a way as you begin to share Frank's hatred for these people and although I could never justify torture, it is slightly more acceptable given the setting.

I would reccomend this book to fans of the punisher or anyone looking for a good read of a graphic novel, I picked it up for around £8 and I would say that's a good price for it's size. I will be doing reviews on the other issues in the series but due to the engrossing storyline and perfect writing this is my favourite so I started here!

Enjoy!

Summary: One of the best short graphic novels I have read

It is definitely more of a darker grittier style than his early spideman appearances, but then spiderman in that time wasnt dealing with rape and heroin too much =P for me the artwork and story ties up well with what his character should be, a man pushed to become something else to tackle the evil in this world.

I quite like The Punisher, but I think he's a bit of a one-track pony. He's at his best when he has a proper baddie to go up against - someone like Jigsaw. The contrast between his traditional comic book appearances (in the pages of Spiderman for example) and those in his own series are enormous.

What 's the artwork like in this one? Punisher stuff tends to be a bit too moody and "gothic" for me.
