The Quantum Connection
Author - Travis S. Taylor
Synopsis:
If you haven't read warp speed then this book might take a bit of getting into.
In warp speed, Quantum's predecessor quantum physics has been solved giving the U.S. warp speed.
However the U.S. has to fight a secret war over the warp speed technology and during this our hero (Steve Montana), has his entire family killed by falling meteors.
The meteor swarm was of course no accident or freak of nature.
Eventually, Steve learns that the "meteor" bombardment had actually been a brief and still secret war between the U.S and its enemies, who have invented a newer warp drive technology.
Another secret to come out was that the U.S. had been sending faster-than-light ships to other star systems.
Most secret of all was that unfriendly aliens were observing the Earth, and U.S. spaceships were at war with the unknown aliens.
Steve is abducted by those very same aliens and held prisoner on one of their ships orbiting Saturn.
At first, he was one of three human prisoners, but he had just seen the aliens completely dissect one of the other prisoners, and it looked as if Steve or a female Russian captive are scheduled to be the next alien experiment.
This is not really a stand alone story, it relies a little too much on the previous book for a full understanding of the FTL drive, the Aliens and the on going war.
The characters in the book relate well to each other, the dialogue is well written and the descriptive content of the settings is excellent.
Not a 5 star book,
More like 4 stars.
