This is the third book in the Victoria series, and as the title would suggest Plaidy mainly focuses on Victoria's relationship with her husband, Albert. Having left the last book, The Queen and Lord M, on the marriage of Victoria and Albert, Plaidy now cleverly goes back in time at the start of this one to tell the story of Albert's childhood. This introduces the character of Ernest, Albert's brother who is featured throughout the book.
