My son turned 5 earlier this year, and so became compulsory school aged. What this meant for us as home educators was that the local LA bod would be making sure now that he, as well as his sister, was receiving an education appropriate to his age and ability. It also meant that with the curriculum we were using, he was ready to do year 0.5, having done a year 0 the year before, so that he was ready to move up next year to year 1 of our curriculum, which is aimed at 6 year olds.
