This book is truly an all time great, I didn't discover it untill some 20 years ago, when a friend asked me if I'd read it. To my shame I'd never even heard of it let alone read it so he lent it to me. I distinctly remember saying "I hope you're not in a hurry to get it back as it's so thick". Fortunatly he told me to keep it for as long as I liked. Upon opening the book I was presented with finding out about Hobbits and reading on Elves, Magicians, Men, Goblins and more and lands full of wonder and I was fully drawn into it, in very short order. This is truly a classic. Tolkien wrote this book during the 1940-50s. It's sometimes sold as a trilogy but is best read as one. Lord of the Rings continues from the Hobbit.
