Robert Ludlum has written a number of exceptional spy thrillers. Some may say that he is the best author of them. Upon his death in 2001, he left behind a number of nearly finished manuscripts and even more plot outlines for books, which continue to be written by a ghost writer to this day and published in Ludlum's name. The other thing the author has the ability to do is create amazingly complex and paranoid plots, such as the one in The Rhinemann Exchange. Written in 1974 at the heart of the Cold War, Ludlum's plot focuses on the exchange of diamonds and gyroscopic designs between the Allies and the Nazis in 1943.
