Background to fireman Sam.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
If you were born after 1985, or a parent /child carer you will probably know who Fireman Sam is. Fireman Sam is an animated TV character who was first shown on Welsh, children loved him so much that he has been shown on English TV since 1987. Fireman Sam is good as he promotes fire safety to children without them being aware of it.
There is much merchandise with fireman Sam s character, children’s party ware, bed linen and more.
There are many of Fireman Sam's escapades in book form for you to read with your children. As your children learn to read they will be able to read these books themselves .
Fireman Sam rooftop rescue ,price and availability
~~~~~~~~
Fireman Sam The roof top rescue is one I picked up from the charity shop for my grandson. This book is suitable for children 2 1/2 to 6 years oldI can not seem to find this book available for sale anywhere on line, but there are many other fireman Sam books available.This book was published in1994 by Mammoth books its price £2.99p.
So are you sitting comfortably? Then I’ll begin.
The story
~~~~~
Its going to be an exciting day in Pontypaddy as Trevor Evans one of the firemen is going to film a rescue for the TV. He gets Sarah and James to help him practice using the new video camera. While he is doing this the real story unfolds, Dilys Price goes home from the café and starts to tidy her attic. She uses a candle to see in her dark attic and careless Dilys throws an old mallet which hits the candle which catches some newspapers alight.
Fortunately outside the twins Sarah and James spot the smoke coming from Dilys’s roof tops and call the fire brigade
The firemen officer Steele and Sam, Elvis, and Trevor jump to attention when the fire Alarm bell rings .They jump in the engine and race to the fire. The firemen see Dilys who has climbed onto the roof by breaking the skylight lock with an old bronze statue. Now I shall tell you no more of the story I do not want to spoil the tension, will Dilys get saved and how? All I will tell you is that fireman Trevor gets it all on film and Trevor’s film was shown on television and the villagers at Pontypaddy watch it.
There are 23 pages to this book each with a large picture on it and 3 rows of large print of about 30 words .
The message from this book is be careful with candles. Fire is fascinating candles are lovely things to light and useful but remember fire spreads quickly and easily..
Fireman Sam appeals to most children a lot of children want to be a fireman and I know my grandson has spent a lot of time pretending to be a fireman putting out imaginary fires.
The website http://www.firemansam.co.uk is good with ideas and games. I shall be reviewing the website another day
Thanks for reading Mary.
- 09/10/07 I think you mean 1987, not 1887! I was born in '85, so remember it very well - I was sure that the openiong song said "his engine's bright and green" and used to complain each time that it was red (the actual lyric was "clean.") Same thing happened with Postman Pat, where I'd insistently yell "letters through your gatepost" over the line "letters through your door," obviously thinking my lyric was the superior one. I was a weird kid. |
