Velocity - Dean Koontz

elderly woman active in charity work.” Just those two lines made me realise this was going to be something I would really enjoy and as the author was Dean Koontz, whom I have read favourably before, it was a foregone conclusion to buy this book. Billy is a bar tender of long standing at The Tavern. His desire was to be published and have novels on the bookshelf with his name as the author but things have not worked out the way he intended. He is a friendly guy but not exactly over enthusiastic with conversation so has many acquaintances but not many friends. After his shift finishes one evening he finds a note under his windscreen wiper. The contents ask him to make a ...

Velocity - Dean Koontz

Rating:
I’ve been a fan of Dean Koontz for a number of years. Not devoted enough to rush out and buy his latest novel on the day of release in hardback, it’s true, but enough that I make sure none of his paperback releases pass me by. Like many authors who have been writing as long as he has, sometimes he delights me and sometimes he disappoints me. In the last couple of years, he has done more of the former, but that wasn’t always true. He had a bad run a few years ago that made me conclude that the thicker a Dean Koontz novel is, the worse it’s likely to be. So I was pleased to note that “Velocity” wasn’t so big. Billy Wiles is nothing special. He lives alone and works as ...

Life Expectancy - Dean Koontz

Rating:
can t help but read on, if only to reach each of the five days. Sadly, however, it was gradually downhill from here. Although I ve heard of Koontz, I d never previously read any of his work. Doubtless others would better be able to fill me in, but I was under the impression that he was a horror/thriller writer, and had certain expectations of his style. Of course, it would not necessarily be a negative to find contrary to what I expected, but the author s writing nonetheless confused me somewhat. The humour that characterises the opening part of the book, before the first day, works well; it brings life to the Tock family unit which is so important to the story, and ...
