Jeffrey Deaver is one of those authors that leaves me feeling ambivalent. For anyone who has read The Bone Collector (and seen the movie starring Denzil Washington) then you know how good he can be with strong characters and superb twist turning plots that keep you glued to the very end. This then entices you onto the next book which turns into a disappointment such as The Empty Chair which then means you have low expectations of the next one and then you pick up The Blue Nowhere which gets your enthusiasm up again. I recently read The Cold Moon, a book I picked up with low expectations as it was that part of the up & down cycle for me but absolutely ... Read the complete review

The Sleeping Doll is Jefferey Deaver’s latest attempt to break away from his popular Lincoln Rhyme character, by introducing a new character, Kathryn Dance. On the evidence of this entertaining read, The Sleeping Doll is very definitely not the last Dance! Deaver has an excellent writing style which really pulls the reader in. He writes in relatively short chapters, which makes it an nice easy book to read on the train or the beach – something you can pick up and put down at will. That’s not to say that it’s a simple book. Kinesic specialist, Kathryn Dance was first introduced to readers in the Lincoln Rhyme novel, THE COLD MOON so it comes as no surprise then that it was only a matter of time before she starred in her own novel. THE SLEEPING DOLL is this time set in Dance's native California and follows her attempts to track down a killer who escapes from custody after being interrogated by her for a recently re-opened murder case. Daniel Pell has always been described as the son of Charlie Manson and was a prevalent cult leader who lead his family of three women and a man in various burgalries and thefts. He was arrested and charged when the robbery of a successful computer ... Read the complete review

I am, and probably ever will be, a crime novel fan. Any good murder mystery/crime novel with a good plot, great twists and interesting characters I'll read it happily. I had heard of Jeffery Deaver before, I even own a few (my favourite is Bone Collector with Lincon Rhyme) but I hadn't read his work for a while. Personally I think that the Lincon Rhyme series has gone a bit too far; but i was interested to see how Deaver dealt with a completly different character. *Synopsis* The Sleeping Doll introduces Kathryn Dance; an expert in kinesics (the art of interpreting behaviour in body langauge or gestures). This skill makes her a world class ... Read the complete review
