Lucy and Tom Go to School - Shirley Hughes
by tb4ms - written on 18/01/07 (Very useful, 78 readings)
Rating:
It wasn t until 1960 that she had her first book published for which she was the author and illustrator, Lucy and Tom s Day . Since then Shirley Hughes has created a number of popular characters in children s fiction, namely Alfie and Annie Rose and Dogger. In 1999 she was awarded an OBE for services to children s literature. ~ The Story ~ This was first published in 1973 so was probably read to me before I started school in 1975 although my memories of childhood aren t great! It is a story about Lucy and her younger brother Tom who were both too young to go to school so during the days they played in the garden, Lucy used to play pretend schools and sometimes Tom ...

The stories she writes about must have many a mother/father and child relating to the situation. The Trouble with Jack Well Jack can only be described as a “little monkey”. He is the young brother to his sister Nancy who will shortly be five. He is not really naughty but should be described as being a little mischievous. Jack is a very untidy boy and much to his sister’s annoyance is very messy at the dinner table and is very lacking in table manners. He also throws his toys around and walks across ...

I decided to write another children’s book review. This is by one of my favourite children’s authors, Shirley Hughes. This book is called “An evening at Alfie’s”, but before I go into detail about it I will tell you about the author first. ~~ Shirley Hughes ~~ Shirley Hughes trained at Liverpool Arts School and Ruskin Arts School in Oxford. She began writing children’s stories when she had her own children. Her first book was published in 1960 and was called “Lucy & Tom’s Day”. Since then she has wrote over 200 books. My favourite books by this author have to be about Alfie & Annie Rose. These stories ...
