"The Survivor" is Tom Cain's second novel and features Sam Carver who was the main character in the first book, "The Accident Man". This second novel was always going to be difficult. The first was a great debut story and had Carver embroiled in the death of a Princess (who is never named) in a tunnel in Paris in 1997. It was a great read and I was eagerly anticipating the follow up. "The Survivor" disappointed in much the same way "Quantum of Solace" couldn't live up to "Casino Royale". Sam Carver has a habit of making bad things happen to even worse people. He uses his services to rid the world of incredibly bad people, but now he has found himself waking up in a Swiss Sanatorium and worse still he finds the woman he loves is gone. Now after months of lying around not really knowing who he was it's all come back to Carver and now he realises he must get his strength back and find her, no matter who gets in his way. This is another of the many books I've never heard of but picked up cheap whilst walking around a Supermarket.
