The Third Victim - Lisa Gardner ... it; we know from the opening passages of The Third Victim that the High School shooting which breaks the heart of the small Oregon town of Bakersville is not as simple as it seems. Young Danny, son of the sherriff, is found with two smoking guns over the corpses of two schoolfellows and his favourite teacher--which for much of the town leaves things open and shut. For Rainie Conner, the young policewoman in charge of the case, things are not that simple--not least because she was once in Danny's position when found with the corpse of her abusive mother, blood and brains in her hair. For Pierce Quincy, an FBI profiler who has taken on school shootings as a break from the slow dying of his daughter, it all seems too pat. And someone is out there talking loudly in the diners and bars of the town, making sure that everyone knows what they ought to be thinking. Lisa Gardner's stylish new police procedural thriller is ingenious in the way it takes what we know from other cases and works inventive variations and spectacular twists on it.

And to complicate matter, FBI profiler Pierce Quincy arrives and offers his help. Once he and Rainie begin to investigate further, O'Grady's sons' involvement doesn't seem as straightforward as the evidence might suggest. ~ Thoughts on the Book ~ I had already re...more
