Advantages: Packed with fantastic tips and advice

Disadvantages: It's got a little bit of everything, not much depth on anything

A perhaps unexpected offering from India Knight and a book that holds a lot of appeal in the current climate, it would be easy to hold the cynical view that she is simpy cashing in by jumping on the latest bandwagon. However, the book itself makes interesting reading and a brief description of India's own money troubles in the introduction (she admits that, despite not being poor by any means, she was hopeless with money and always in debt) soon convinced me that she was writing from experience and I soon began to find the book a really interesting read.
Living within your means is a message that is being repeately reinforced by recent events and, lets face it, only spending what you have is just plain common sense if you want to avoid debts that spiral out of control. However, it takes a book like this to make it fun, a challenge to change your lifestyle in small, positive ways that really will make a difference. Not a cheesy, 'smile and the world smiles with you' type self help book but packed with handy tips from a woman who really does know what it's like to radically change her spending habits. Most areas of lie are covered briefly, from clothes swapping parties to thrifty recipes and shopping ideas. And perhaps the best thing about it is all the web links she provides for more in depth advice and tips on all the things that can't be covered in full in one book.
At a time when everyone is starting to think about counting the pennies I'm sure that there will be many, many advice books on the subject of thrift flooding the shelves but, for me, this little gem will always have a central place among them. And the basic vegetable curry recipe she describes is absolutely gorgeous!

Summary: Fantastic thrifty advice for those wanting to save a little

Sounds worth buying for the vegetable curry alone! Susan
