“ Just the two of us – we can make it if we try, just the two of us, you and I”. I cannot help it but each time I reach for the cover of this book that darn song appears in my head. Don't let that start of my review fool you though, this is not a story to put a smile on your face. It’s a pity that the book isn’t as cheery as the song as there is no happy ending. The book is a true story about John Thaw of The Sweeney and Morse fame written by his wife, Sheila Hancock. My other half bought me this book for Christmas then spent the next few days tutting as I worked my way through a box of tissues and two of his hankies in the process of reading it. Sheila begins her extremely touching story with a description of her early years and Britain as it was then. She then progresses through the years describing John's family and early life. To begin with, if it wasn't for the cleverly placed diary entries between every few paragraphs, her story would appear to be about British history and acting in general.
