All the books are set in Turnham Malpas, with new characters arriving, old ones leaving and the usual smattering of births, marriages and deaths. After reading the previous four novels, Village Secrets is like returning to visit old friends. Although the book can be criticised for its rather quaint depiction of a village which seems set some five decades ago, this particular novel is a slight departure from the previous ones. (It's also the first of these books I have read where 'token child' Flick Charter-Plackett remains unscathed throughout!!) The novel still manages to be as interesting as usual, following the same pattern of readability as the previous ones. It begins fairly slowly, but I read the last hundred pages in one go, being ...
