The second book in the Time Quartet by this author, this book also works quite well as a stand alone. It does not require any of the back story of the original to make any sense. Meg is much happier at school now, and Charles wallace seems to have emerged somewhat from his rather withdrawn self. the return of their father in the previous book has changed the dynamic of this family from one full of hurt and without its heart, to a fairly average middle income family, though with parents in the unusual job of theoretical scientists.
