Remember the thrill of being a child, when you could take a cardboard box or a bunch of tree branches and make them into a spaceship? I sure do, and this book brings back all the excitement of those days to reality for younger readers. Told matter of factly using language that children will recognise as realistic to themselves, and viewing the world through a child's eyes is no mean feat, but Eleanor Cameron has pulled it off brilliantly here. I can still recall being eight years old, and my teacher putting aside time to read us a chapter a day if we had all behaved ourselves.
