Advantages: Great humour

Disadvantages: A little confusing at times

The World According to Clarkson was first published in 2004 and contains with in it articles that first appeared in Jeremy Clarkson's Sunday Times column between 2001 and 2003. The topic of these articles varies incredibly and this is what makes the book so interesting to read.

Now if you are aware of Jeremy Clarkson, which I'm sure, most people are, he is often to be found ranting about something or another. If it isn't why flying First Class doesn't exist or why we should forget the Euro and simply concentrate on getting a universal socket then it's something to do with record breakers or why Health and Safety men are a pain in the backside.

Now these rants of his are in fact very often cleverly constructed arguments and quite often whilst reading this book I found myself agreeing with him wholeheartedly and actually thinking to myself, why isn't there people like him in government. At other times I know why there aren't people like him in government and am jolly glad there aren't - although to be honest I'm not sure he could do a worse job than some of those people called Politicians.

The book is on the whole written in a very upbeat style despite the fact that each article is generally a moan about something or other. In this way therefore this book is perfect for simply picking up whenever you have a spare few minutes. This is aided by the fact that each article is only 3 or 4 pages long and so takes no longer than 5 minutes to read.

In general I really enjoyed reading this book although I did at times wonder what on earth he was going on about. This could however be because a lot of his topics do relate to current affairs at the time and so being only 11 or 12 at the time I don't always remember much about the topic that sparked off his rant. This doesn't however mean I was completely lost when reading his book, as whether you recognise what the spark for the article was or not the main of the article is usually humorous enough to keep you entertained. For those however that do recall the event being discussed then I am certain that the enjoyment will be greater.

As with everything Clarkson does this book is home to a great helping of humour and so I frequently found myself quietly chuckling as I read the articles. Furthermore because the book also comes with a great serving of common sense you do find yourself agreeing with him when he attacks the pompous and the ridiculous as well as the clever and the bloody brilliant.

The book contains 327 pages and has a RRP of £7.99 although it can be purchased cheaper online.

Summary: A brilliantly humorous book
