"The year of living biblically" is one of a new breed of books that I think might best be described as "quest books". Unlike the traditional approach to authorship where a writer pens a book based on something they have already done, the quest book is sold on a proposition of something that he (and it is invariably a he) will do. Ideally, this has to be something nobody has ever done before, and better still, should be something they would only do if they could then sell a book based on the fact they have done it.
