Everyone no matter how old you are will have heard the nursery rhyme about the old lady who swallowed a fly then went on to swallow half a zoo before she died. How many of you would have liked to see what was going on inside her stomach with all those animals? well now you can, this book is of the traditional nursery rhyme but you get to see inside the old ladys stomach. The pictures in this book are brilliant, they are well thought out and funny. Firstly the old lady swallowed a fly, which you can see in her stomach in the picture. Then she swallows the spider so that he will eat the fly Then she swallows a bird to ... Read the complete review

Please tell me you've heard of Burl Ives. Please! Just in case you haven't (and if you haven't then you must heap more shame on yourself), he was a folk singer, mostly known for his renditions of traditional childrens songs. Super, they are. However he was also a Broadway star and perhaps most famously a film star. He was Daddy Rufus in The Big Country, for example, you know - super speech at the party, shoots his own son, Chuck and Gregory Peckory have a big fight. He was also a great friend of John Steinbeck, travelling chronicler of dust bowl America (you see how these things all interlink and fit together perfectly? Never pigeon-hole, it's so ... I remembered this book from my own childhood and loved it so much that I bought this book for my daughter for christmas as a stocking filler and she loves it too. I purchased it from amazon with my dooyoo earnings, the book cost £3.99 at the time with free post and packing which I thought was a real bargain. The book itself is slightly different from the version shown above, my daughters copy has a blue background and a picture of the old lady on the cover with a huge stomach and a tiny fly inside. The book is about a lady that firstly swallows a fly, there is no reason given why she would do such a thing but she then continues to eat a ... Read the complete review

This popup book never fails to capture the imagination of a young reader. Full with bright pop-up pictures and simple vocabulary this is the type of book that a child never forgets. The story may be simple, but it is ideal for young minds, and behind the simple text is an important moral "Don't make a mountain out of a mole-hill". Children who have read this book never forget it. The bright and colourful pages attract attention and although the story line may be simple it is one you will never forget, and it is plain to see that a lot of effort has been put into the writing of this book. Recommended. ... Read the complete review
