Advantages: Funny, like all Pratchett books, unique, different from the rest of his books

Disadvantages: a little complex

This is the 26th of Pratchetts discworld series and they seem to get better and better. This one is perhaps not the best one for someone who has not been introduced to the discworld before to read, as some of it depends on previous knowledge of the characters and it is a little complex. BUt if you have read the discworld before then prepared to enjoy this one lots and my only advise is not to read it in public because the amount of strange noises you will make trying not to laugh out loud could get embarrasing.

The storyline basically runs that Jeremy, a very insane orphan clockmaker is commissioned to build a glass clock, with the help of an Igor - who really does have his Grandfather's hands. What he doesn't know is that he is being commissioned by the Auditors and the clock, when activated will stop time, making things nice and tidy for the Auditors as there will no longer be any humans messing things up.
At the same time in the valley where the Monks of History live, a highly precocious novice, who just happens to be an orphan too, is causing problems and so is assigned to the sweeper Lu Tze for training. Lu Tze, being 800 years old is the best equipt to deal with Lobsang as he has experienced the world, most especially Ankh Morpork and the philosophy of Mrs Cosmopolite. This has taught Lu Tze a unique Way which he passes onto Lobsang, the most important rule in which is Rule 1: "Do not act incautiously when confronting little bald wrinkly smiling men."
Add in Susan Sto Hellit, DEATH's granddaugter, who's attitute towards eductation is highly refreshing and to whom the rules of physics most certainly don't apply (they wouldn't dare), the riding out of the 4 horsemen of the apocalypse, for the sake of salad cream sandwiched, and only if War's wife tells him thats alright and that he likes riding out, and the fifth horseman, who left before they got famous and isn't at all bitter, then you have the making
s of a great Pratchett book.
With a complete cast of all the usual lunacy, it is up to Lobsang and Lu Tze to stop Jeremy and save the world from the Auditors, with the help of killer chocolate, naturally.

An excellent summary of the plot, but to get a VU I would have liked to have read a bit more about your own experience of the book, what it meant to you etc.

Good op. I've never read any Pratchett, maybe I will after reading this!
