Advantages: An excellent Storyline, Terry Pratchett has a very good sense of humour

Disadvantages: A bit complicated, especially for anyone who has never read Discworld books

Thief of Time is the 26th book in the Discworld series and in my opinion the Discworld books are getting better all the time.
This book breaks away from the main characters who normally star in the discworld books (the witches, Rincewind, The City Watch and Death) and introduces some new characters, one of whom is young Lobsang Ludd, an apprentice of the mysterious Monks of History who handle the resource of time on the Discworld and Lu Tze, his master who is not all he appears to be and Ronny, the fifth horseman of the apocalypse (who left before they became famous).
The book also features some charaters who followers of the Discworld series will recognize, including Susan (deaths grandaughter) - the Death of rats and, of course, Death himself.
The book centres around Lobsang Ludd, Lu Tze and Susan. Lobbsang and Lu Tze have to embark on a quest to ensure that the very fabric of space time is not torn into a million peaces when the first truly accurate clock in the universe is built. Meanwhile Susan has become a teacher and is living a normal life (except for the fact that she can stop time and walk through walls). She is drawn into the quest when her grandfather gives her the ominous warning that the world is going to end.
Throughout the story Death also has the difficult task of persuading the other horseman to ride out, but to his dismay, "apocalypses Aren't like they were in the old days".
Overall i have to say that Thief of Time is an excellent but complicated book and i would only recommend it to people who have read earlier Discworld books because then readers can get the full history of characters such as Susan and the Death of Rats.

Right, i've added the ISBN and book length.
And i've only ever read Hitch hikers guide to the galaxy (i believe that was a Douglas Adams book ? i may be thinking of the wrong person though) i didn't really like it very much but i think the first couple of discworld books weren't brilliant either so i'll have to check out the reviews on a few other Douglas Adams books.

VU - concise stuff - but could you add the ISBN and the length of the book to the bottom? Always handy to have. ta.

Having read 4 discworld novels I am still to be convinced by Pratchett's greatness, but I retain an open mind. I often feel though that he is the poor mans Douglas Adams.
