Advantages: exciting story

Disadvantages: none!

Reading is always a great thing to do, your imagination will increase and it gives you a chance to discover new worlds and characters. Most children these days do not spend so much time reading, instead they spend hours and hours in frond of the TV. I think we should encourage children to read a show them that you can have a fantastic time reading.

The Malory Towers collection is a great set of books for young girls, these books will give your children a chance to have exciting adventures with Darrel and her friends. There are a total of six books in the Malory Tower Collection, starting from Darrell's very first day as an insignificant first former and finishing with Darrel's last day in her grand school as head of the whole school. On her first day the headmistress of Malory Towers spoke to Darrel and some other new girls at Malory Towers about the failures and successes at her school, from that day on Darrel is determined to be one of Malory Towers great successes and Miss Grayling (the headmistress) is glad to say that Darrel is one of Malory Towers biggest successes.

The third book is all about Darrel's third year in Malory Towers, it starts off in Darrel's house while her and her family are packing her belongings and sorting out everything she has to take to Malory Towers. Felicity, Darrel's younger sister is quite jealous, as she longs to go to the magnificent school that her older sister is always talking about, but pleased that she only has to wait until September to be going off with Darrel.

Usually, Darrel's parents pick up Sally Hope, Darrel's best friend, and take her to Malory Towers, but this year she is in quarantine as she has had the measles and won't be coming back at the beginning of the year this time, Darrel is quite disappointed as she was looking forward to seeing her.
This year Darrel's grandmother had asked them to take one of her friend's granddaughters to Malory Towers, Zerelda. Zerelda is a new girl at Malory Towers, she is American and has come to England to stay with her English grandmother, she will be going to Malory Towers this year to learn more about England an English girls. As soon as Darrel sees her walking towards her car she thinks that she must be really old and would definitely not be in her class or form. Zerelda seems really grown up to Darrel, the way the does her hair, and she puts make-up on makes her seem older than she really is, but it isn't only the way she dresses but the way she talks as well. Darrel starts telling her all about Malory Towers but Zerelda just falls asleep! Darrel is really annoyed with Zerelda and decides to not talk to Zerelda when she wakes up.

As soon as they arrive, Zerelda wakes up and Darrel rushes out the car to greet her friends, Alicia's best friend Betty isn't coming back at the beginning of the year, so Alicia and Darrel will be going together until their friends come back.

Zerelda, is in the North tower and in the fourth form, she doesn't really enjoy the company of her fellow fourth formers as they take life quite seriously and much rather prefers the jolly third formers; she thinks they are just "wunnerful". Wilhelmina is another new girl this year and to the girls surprise she arrives on horse back along with her seven brothers! They soon learn that she is horse crazy and loves the company of her horse Thunder, a huge black horse, Wilhelmina does not like her name at all and prefers people to call her "Bill", the girls understand it and agree that no other name but "Bill" would suit the horse loving tomboy.

Zerelda seems to be having problems keeping up with the work in the fourth form and even though she tries as hard as she can, she cant seem to do all her work and understand all the lessons, so the teachers agree that they have no other choice and have to put Zerelda back in the third form with Darrel and the rest, Zerelda prefers them to the fourth formers but is really disappointed with herself and is determined to do very well in her new class. Everything is this new English school seems so strange to her and can't believe some of the things that these English girls do. Even though she isn't great at her studies but thinks that she could be a great actress and can't wait for the school play to come.

This year there are loads of new adventures that the girls have, but as well as fun times there are also some tragic moments with Thunder, Bill's horse, and Mavis looses her precious treasure.
I had a great time reading this book as a child, I enjoyed reading all these mischievous adventures that Darrel and her friends shared and longed to go to a school like Malory Towers.

On Amazon you can get this book for the price of 3.49, I think it is worth it and as I enjoyed these books as a child I want children to continue enjoying them.

Thanks for reading! xx
