When my daughter was younger the health visitor dropped in for her 6-9 month rountine check up. She brought a 'Bookstart' bag along with her. The bag included 2 books ('This Little Baby' and 'Tickle, Tickle'), a laminated song and rhyme sheet and a ton of information about books and libraries. The idea of the Bookstart scheme is to get children into books and reading at a young age - and a great idea it is too as books encourage many valuble learning skills. To top it off, the whole thing is free so nobody has an excuse! I decided to write a review of the 'This Little Baby' book because my daughter has loved this book from the day she got it and still loves it ... Read the complete review

Books not only help your child visualise objects and things but they also promote speech and language and encourage your child to sit still for a little while which we all know is a valuable thing when they've been running wild with endless energy all day! Our local library really encourages parents to get a library card for their child as soon as possible. As part of this promotion they invented a new initiative called 'Bookstart'. One area of bookstart involves giving each and every child a pack whihc contains various informationa bout the library and other goodies. The child recieves these packs at aged 6-9 months from the health visitor then they get ... Read the complete review

my little boy is nearly two and this is one of his favourite books. He has had it since he was a baby when he got it free as part of his bookstart pack. He loves looking at other children anyway, he'll always stop when there are kids on the telly. I think that is quite a natural instinct in children his age. Because this book has been read to him from a young age, and because the text is brief and easy for him he knows what is gonna happen next. Each page gains a different response from him. He says 'hello' to the first baby before we even turn the page. The second baby gets a cheer to help him on his way. The little boy on the third ... Read the complete review

My daughter received this in a Bookstart bag when my granddaughter was six months old and it's been a firm favourite ever since. This Little Baby by Sandra Lousanda is a 14 page board book especially for little babies and has a small amount of text for mum and dad (or Nanny-Joy!) to read to baby as well as a large picture of a baby on each page so your little one can flick through the book herself. The text is in the form of a rhyme and my granddaughter is just one now and she laughs when I put emphasis on the rhyming words so I think this book definitely helps her to start understanding the ways in which language can be used. She also recognises some of the ... Read the complete review

This was one of the first books that I bought my son, when he was about 3 months old, and didn't even know what a book was! I was really attracted to it because of the smiling baby on the cover, and the pictures within the book, and it was at a very reasonable price as well, especially compared to some other books on the market aimed at babies. So to my review. "This Little Baby" is a board book aimed at younger babies right through to toddler age, because it has a broad appeal. It is a board book, so is nice and sturdy, and it is easy for little hands to hold and help to turn the pages. It has a total of 14 pages, inclusing the front and back ... Read the complete review
