Advantages: Lovely addition to the Thomas story collection
Disadvantages: None
Fergus is another edition in the Thomas the Tank Engine collection. He is a little blue traction engine who always likes to do the right thing.
THE STORY
The book begins with the Fat Controller giving us a bit of information about Fergus and telling us that one day he asked Fergus to help Bill and Ben in the Quarry.
We are told how Fergus knows all of the rules and how he always likes to stick to them.
The story goes on to tell how Fergus was cheerfully chuffing across the island to do a special job which the Fat Controller had asked him to do.
Fergus passes Thomas and tells him about this special job and Thomas warns him to watch out for Bill and Ben as they like to get up to mischief. Fergus thanked Thomas and said that he would not let them get the better of him.
When arriving at the Quarry Mavis and the twins are waiting for him. They all set to work straight away.
Bill and Ben see Fergus sorting the trucks out and they decide they are going to have some fun.
Fergus is happily working with Mavis and sees what a very useful engine she is. He noticed that Bill and Ben were not being useful or behaving. Fergus tells them to be careful.
Bill leaves his trucks on the points so that Fergus cannot get out. He asks Bill and Ben to move the trucks but Ben just grins at him.
Will Fergus be able to get out and will he be able to show Bill and Ben how to do their jobs safely and properly and will Ben and Bill ever learn that you must not play silly games or tricks on the dangerous railway?
MY OPINION
This is another great book in the ever growing collection from Thomas.
The book cover is set out with the title at the top in a red banner and a picture of Fergus below. The back cover has small pictures showing other books available in this collection.
My boys love this story and they are kept very involved with the book as the pictures are full of different things to look at and talk about.
The book is set out in a very easy way with the text being on the left hand side of the page and the illustration on the right which makes it much easier for my children to follow the words.
The text is a nice size which means that my eldest is able to help with the words.
The story is very easy to follow and as with most of the Thomas books these is always a lesson to be learnt at the end.
INFO
This book has been published by Egmont. It was written by the Rev. W. Awdry with the illustrations by Robin Davies and Jerry Smith.
I purchased this copy for £2.50 which is a very reasonable price for such a lovely book.
I would highly recommend this book for all Thomas or train fans.

- 29/02/08 Toby likes Thomas, but we haven't encouraged him too much as buying the whole set of trains and books can be very expensive. Children go through so many phases, it can cost you a fortune. Nicola x |
