The downfall of Thomas Cromwell was my specialist subject at University, so I'm always on the lookout for new material about him. Although one of the key figures of the Tudor age, relatively few books have been written about him. Robert Hutchinson's effort is an attempt to rectify that, and is largely successful, albeit with some fairly significant "BUTs..." First, the background.
