This is one of the many books I have bought for my baby son and it is by far my favourite. It only cost £2.50 from W H Smith and I love it! It is book 49 in the Thomas Story Library (and there are 50 books in total, each one featuring a different character from Thomas the Tank Engine). Eventually I intend to collect them all, but I think we definately made a good start with this story. The book is published by Egmont, written by the Rev. W. Awdry and illustrated by Robin Davies and Jerry Smith. Its IBSN is 978-1-4052-3298-2. Alfie is a green excavator in who features in the My Thomas Story Library. He is book number 49. The cover of the book has a picture of Alfie and an orange banner above with the title in green lettering. The back cover has small pictures showing the other books available in the collection. THE STORY The first page in the book is where the Fat Controller introduces us to Alfie, he tells us that he is an excavator. Other trains and vehicles on the island teased Alfie for being small.
