Advantages: Great addition to the My Thomas Story Library
Disadvantages: None
The Fat Controller is a lovely little book in the My Thomas Story library.
The book is blue and has a picture of the fat control with two trains behind him and the title in a blue banner and red lettering above. The back cover of the book has smaller pictures of other books available in the collection.
THE STORY
The book begins by giving us a page has information about the Fat Controller, Sir Topham Hat as his real name is. It tells us how he has loved trains ever since he was a little boy and he says how the engines can sometimes be as troublesome as the trucks.
The story begins with us seeing him having his breakfast with his wife when he is interrupted by the telephone. He learns that the engines are being naughty and he has to go at once to sort them out at once.
He arrives at the Main Station where there is lots of noise as the passengers are getting angry waiting for their train. The Fat controller sits at his desk when the station master comes in and tells him that Henry is sulking in the sheds and there is now no train for the waiting passengers. The fat controllers says that he cannot allow the passenger to think that it is a bad railway.
The Fat controller goes to the sheds to talk to the engines but will he be able to get them to do their jobs and stop the passengers thinking that he runs a very bad railway line?
MY OPINION
This is a lovely little book which my boys really enjoy listening to. The story is very easy for children to follow and is not very long so is an ideal bedtime story.
The book is laid out in a very simple and easy to follow way with the writing on the left hand page and the illustrations on the right hand pages. The writing is a very good size which allows my eldest to read and help me with the words.
The illustrations are all very nice and bright and have a good amount of detail in them so I am able to keep my boys involved in the book by asking them to find things in the pictures.
The book has a small lesson to learn at the end as with all the books in this collection.
