The Thorn Birds- Colleen McCullough- What an 'epic'! The Thorn Birds is, in my opinion 'The' best book I have ever read, I am a person who loves to read and have read many many books, but The Thorn Birds is an amazingly well put together story of poverty, sadness, happiness, hope, despair, naivity and love, all emotions that are transferred to you the reader as felt by Meggie Cleary the book's main character. The authoress 'Colleen McCullough' really captivates you with the story. Having read McCulloughs first novel,The Thorn Birds,I did read several subsequent books which did not surpass her first.Maybe because the Thorn Birds was so good and riveting I was always looking for her ultimate triumph. So far that has not happened. Thorn Birds is set in Australia in the early part of the century, and follows a familys disasters and triumphs.Nothing special in that you might say,but the themes and plots, twists and turns are what make it special. This book does it.I found it ...  Read the complete review

Very funny, Addictive, Great story line Maybe it being addictive may be a down point if you don't really have a full day to read the whole thing!

Suprisingly refreshing, excellent character portrayal None really, apart from the cover and whole blurb of the book being a bit offputting when it is actually an excellent read

Interesting characters, Unique story, The style and everything else Could ruin the movie for you, but that's really doubtful

It was slightly more interesting than staring at the walls See review

Intelligent, thoughtful perspective of the football fan Hard for those who don't like football to relate to a lot of what he writes
