Advantages: GOOD CHARACTERS
Disadvantages: MORE BACKSTORY NEEDED
TIETAM BROWN is a novel from wrestler Mick Foley.
The plot focuses on a father and son both called Antietam Brown. The father is better known as Tietam while the son reffered to as Andy. For 15 years these two never met with Andy going from foster home to foster home never really feeling loved. Tietam is an alcoholic who has no real ambition in life.
When the two are reunited they know the yhave to form a bond. Andy is starting to discover love and everything that goes with it including sex. He is helped by the fact that his father is a sex addict who constantly has women over. From here the novel focuses on the relationship of father and son and everything in between.
This is a cracking story with fantastic characters. Andy is likeable as the teenager growing up with many problems while his father Tietam is an anti-hero who we should hate, but actualy love. From a masculine viewpoint we could read this novel from a male bonding perspective as the son tries to learn from his father.
Foley writes with great humour thrown into the mix. Foley seems to really know his characters and the direction he wants them to go. He uses great imagery so the reader has a clear vision of what's going on. I would have liked to have seen more backstory to why Andy was in foster homes and where the mother was in all this.
The plot moves at a fair pace especially when father and son come together. I think during the sexual encounters with women there should have been more detail as it feels censored somewhat.
Wrestling fans expecting to read Foley's book about this subject will be dissapointed. If you forget Foley's a wrestler then this is a great novel full of creative ideas.
Summary: TIETAM TRIUMPHANT!
