Tiger and me is a paperback book by Kaye Umansky illustrated by Susie Jenkin Pearce. . It has 32 pages. The book I have is as is a red fox book published by Random house in 2001. Previous to that this story was published by Hutchinson's children's books in 1990.This book is suitable for children aged 4 to 7 years old. Suitable for key stage 1 .
The RRP price is £4,99p the ISBN IS 0M 09 972210 0
This is a story written in rhyme about a little girl who visits the jungle. She meets a tiger who tells her life is unbearable because all his brothers and sisters are locked in a zoo. How he has no one to roar with and do other tiger things. The poem tells how while they were all asleep the zoo people came and caught everyone except for himself.

"But fangs are no use
Against mans mighty weapons
Soon it was over.
My brothers were caught."

The tiger who is left sits down hearted and tells his tale. The little girl offers to help.
When she returns home she was sad, she told the story to all her friends, her mum and dad. They wrote to newspapers saw the prime minister let everyone know what was going on Eventually the authorities agreed and took the tigers back to their jungle home and set them free The end of the story ends with all the tigers back where they belong . "

I like this book as it is slightly different to many books in that not only is it telling a story and using simple text to help children with their reading, it also is giving children a message that they can help change things. This book enlightens children to the fact that the real place for animals is in the wild not in cages. I hope it has helped children think about this.
I personally am not a great lover of zoo's yes there is a small place for them to help with animal conservation and education. I think the method in which animals are acquired for zoos has improved. But sometimes when I visit a zoo and see animals bored and pacing cages it makes me feel sad. I think this book is good at raising children's awareness.

This book has 2 4 line rhymes of about 4 /5 words per line on alternate pages with a few illustrations surrounding the words. . The opposite page has a picture that is related to the content of the rhymes. The tigers look quite forlorn in the book where they are in cages and at the end of the book after being set free they look happy when on the last page

"He and his brothers
Are frolicking joyfully
Down by the water hole
Where they belong ."

Summary: A childrens book about a tiger
