a life changing book (To Kill a Mockingbird - Harper Lee)
Member Name: craig1982
Advantages: great read....... Disadvantages: none if you have never heard of this book then i can but feel sorry for you. as a school child i knew a little about racism, discrimination and what it was to be different but upon reading to kill a mockingbird my eyes were pulled wide open. this is a book that was far ahead of its time but still hasn't finished its life changing journey. the basic story is to do with discrimination and racism, that of tom robinson. tom is black and accused of the rape of a white woman, then defended by a white lawyer, atticus finch. as you can imagine this doesn't go down very well, especially when you consider the book is set in 20th century alabama. harper lee tells the tale beautifully whilst telling a back story alongside it of a man named boo radley, a reclusive loner who is the shadowed star of the story. the fact that lee was born in alabama shines through what with her wide knowledge of the southern accent which you find yourself speaking because its so well written. i'm not going to tell the story for you because i found the pleasure for me came from taking the journey myself. all i will say is be prepared to learn a lesson in compassion, respect and acceptance. life changing. Summary: buy this book |
